An Introduction to the Francestown Democratic Committee

On August 8, 2022, Posted by , in Fundraising, Stay Informed, With Comments Off on An Introduction to the Francestown Democratic Committee

Every registered Democrat in Francestown has automatic membership in the FDC and is welcome to attend our meetings and events, without any obligation to pay dues.

However, we do ask Democrats and Democrat-leaning Undeclared voters in Francestown to voluntarily support our activities with biennial contributions made during the Mid Term and General Election cycles.

Over the coming weeks, we hope that you will help finance our town’s Committee, as we work towards changing the direction of politics and governance in New Hampshire, and actively support the campaigns of competent and responsible candidates for state and federal office.

Year- round the FDC acts on behalf of Democrats and Undeclared voters to promote progressive policies including:

  • The responsible stewardship of our environment and amelioration of climate change
  • The strengthening of Public Education
  • A defense of reproductive rights
  • Affordable access to health care, mental health services, and detox programs
  • Tax relief for NH property owners
  • Paid Family Medical Leave and an expansion of affordable Day Care
  • Family-friendly, rather than predominantly Corporate-friendly policies
  • Support for Voting Rights

Your financial contribution to the Francestown Democratic Committee strengthens our ability to:

  • Advocate for policies and legislation in Concord and Washington that align with our values
  • Mobilize voters when issues, bills and high-level appointments in Concord require immediate action
  • Maintain on-going communication with elected officials in Concord and Washington
  • Support the campaigns of Democratic candidates that will work to restore common sense, civil discourse, and sound governance in Concord, and represent us well in Washington

Contributions are also used to pay for:

Communications and the operation of websites

  • Mailings
  • Voter lists
  • Ads highlighting issues and candidates
  • FDC sponsored events

Please give as generously as you can this year. So much is at stake.

Dr. Tom Sherman, along with our candidates for Executive Council EC5 (Shoshona Kelly), NH Senate SD8 (Charlene Lovett),  and the NH House of Representatives D27 (Susan Kane) , are all facing heavily funded Republican candidates.

On November 13th, We MUST flip the Governor’s Office, the Executive Council, and the legislator back to BLUE.

Checks can be made out to the Francestown Democratic Committee and mailed to:

……VOTE THEM OUT……

Unfortunately, Governor Chris Sununu cannot be trusted on reproductive rights. Particularly troubling is his recent appearance at a campaign event for an anti-abortion extremist candidate running for Governor in a neighboring state.  His court appointments, his belated action on rising consumer energy costs, his lack of support for public education and our teachers, and his luke-warm enthusiasm for family friendly legislation should all raise our concerns. Sununu’s lack of leadership on climate change issues is also coupled with a low level of engagement regarding the development of renewable energy sources . We lag far behind other New England states in wind power and solar power.  Sununu has ignored the need to remedy seemingly broken and expensive healthcare and mental health delivery systems in NH. He appears oblivious to pleas to stop downshifting state program costs to our overburdened towns and property owners, while continuing to award funding and tax breaks to his friends, contributors, and to multi-national companies.

David Wheeler, is a 2020 election skeptic who has endorsed legislation making it more difficult for students , new residents, and those serving in the military to register to vote. He is a strong supporter of Edleblut policies and the expansion of school vouchers. He provides a reliable Republican vote AGAINST Planned Parenthood funding and reproductive rights, and  needs to removed from the District 5 Executive Council seat this November.

Ruth Ward, the SD8 NH Senator currently representing us, also deserves retirement. Her decades long advocacy for fetal rights over reproductive rights, her support and collusion with Frank Edelblut to promote school vouchers and destroy public education, and a voting record that demonstrates just how extreme her views are, should motivate all of us to work hard for Charlene Lovett , our Democratic candidate . Many questions have arisen regarding the participation of Ruth’s husband, Fred Ward, as a founding Trustee of the Lionheart Charter School in Peterborough. The school’s approval by the NH Department of Education was fast-tracked, and it received its Charter and tax- payer funding in record time. Lionheart is scheduled to open its doors in September. Its curriculum and syllabi are being provided by Hillsdale College, a far-right religious institution with strong political ties to Trump and Betsy DeVos.

Meet the Candidates

Come and meet the Democratic candidates running against these Republican incumbents at the Hillsborough County Democratic Committee Picnic being held on Sunday, August 14th at Oak Park in Greenfield. The picnic will begin at 11am. Tickets are still available for purchase at:

Susan Kane, a Francestown resident and the Democratic candidate for the D 27 seat in the NH House of Reps will be on hand to speak and answer questions.

US Senator Maggie Hassan will not be on hand, as she will be in Washington to vote for the sweeping climate, tax, and health package, known as the Inflation Reduction Act.

Please send me an email letting me know if you are willing to:

  • Canvass for candidates
  • Work a phone bank shift
  • Write postcards and prepare mailings
  • Place a yard sign on your property
  • Write press releases and Letters to the Editor/NH Newspapers

We need every vote we can muster. Encourage all your kids, grandkids, and neighbor’s kids turning 18  to register to vote.

If you know local college- age students who will be away at school, please work with them to obtain an Absentee Ballot.

If you or your friends plan to be out of town this November, please make sure everyone has an Absentee Ballot to use.
