Policies

We believe New Hampshire families deserve an affordable cost of living that allows them to stay rooted in their community. Democrats will fight to lower costs by expanding affordable housing options, investing in clean and reliable energy and protecting access to quality care. We support policies that strengthen wages, protect workers and ensure that full time work provides economic security. Our approach prioritizes local solutions. Together we are committed to building an economy that works for everyone.
-
We believe everyone should be able to afford to live in the town we call home. We support housing solutions that preserve our rural character while creating options for working families, seniors and young residents. We are committed to protecting homeowners from rising costs by supporting fair property tax policies and responsible zoning reform. By encouraging thoughtful growth and fair local policies we can keep our community vibrant, welcoming and affordable.
-
We support policies that help local employers and entrepreneurs grow while encouraging remote work opportunities and responsible development that fits our rural character. We advocate for simplified state requirements for starting and operating a business, including simpler start up paperwork, clearer reporting rules and more efficient tax collection. Local business people should be able to focus on growing and not on paperwork.
-
We believe public safety begins with strong community relations and well-supported first responders. We support fully funding local fire, EMS and law enforcement services while emphasizing training, mental health support and emergency preparedness. Our approach focuses on prevention, fairness, and accountability reflecting the values and needs of our community.
-
The State of New Hampshire has a constitutional responsibility to provide and fairly fund an adequate public education. The state continues to shift education costs onto local property taxpayers. We support fair, adequate state funding that strengthens public schools and respects local decision-making. Public education dollars should remain in public schools and be used transparently and accountably. Strong public schools are essential to our children and to New Hampshire’s future.
-
We believe healthcare should be accessible and affordable for everyone. We support protecting and strengthening Medicaid. Rising healthcare and prescription drug costs must be addressed through transparency and cost controls. We support expanding access to primary care, mental health, and substance use treatment.
-
We believe decisions about pregnancy and reproductive healthcare belong to individuals, their families, and their healthcare providers, not politicians. We support protecting access to abortion and reproductive healthcare services that New Hampshire residents have long relied on. Government interference in personal medical decisions threatens both individual freedom and public health. We oppose bans and restrictions that limit care or create barriers to access, especially for rural communities. Protecting reproductive freedom is essential to privacy, healthcare access, and equality.
-
Francestown Democrats believe in equal rights, equal dignity, and equal protection under the law for all people. We support policies that ensure everyone, regardless of background, identity, or who they love, can participate fully in community life without fear of discrimination. Inclusion means removing barriers, respecting differences, and treating people fairly, not dividing communities or singling people out. We stand against efforts that use fear or misinformation to undermine civil rights or exclude people from public life. Strong, welcoming communities are built on fairness, respect, and shared opportunity.
-
We believe strong infrastructure is essential to a thriving rural community and a resilient local economy. We support investing in safe roads and bridges, reliable drinking water and wastewater systems, and modern stormwater management that protects our rivers and open spaces. We prioritize expanding high speed broadband and strengthening the electric grid to improve reliability, lower long term energy costs, increase energy efficiency and improve resilience during storms and outages. We advocate for smart, cost-effective upgrades that reduce long-term maintenance costs and make our community more energy efficient. Infrastructure investments should be planned locally, funded fairly, and built to serve our community for generations to come.
-
We support the position of our Secretary of State, David Scanlon, who maintains that voter fraud is NOT rampant in NH, and has pushed back against demands from the US Department of Justice to turn over all registered voter files, complete with sensitive personal information. His lawsuit against the DOJ has been joined by Kent Street Coalition founder Louise Spencer. New NH voter background check requirements under HB1569 will now require new registrants to document their proof of citizenship with a passport, birth certificate, or naturalization papers. An Affidavit on election day will no longer be accepted. We believe registering to vote should be made easier, not harder, and support the lawsuits filed against this Bill by the ACLU and the League of Women Voters.
-
We uphold the Rule of Law and separation of powers in the Constitution. We defend the Bill of Rights and later Amendments to protect against government overreach and tyranny, extending these rights to everyone on U.S. soil. We champion voter participation, fair elections, nonpartisan districting, and voter registration. We recognize the U.S. as an immigrant nation, support a path to citizenship, and provide asylum to those fleeing human rights abuses.
-
We support environmental stewardship and acknowledge global warming as an urgent threat to our economy and well‑being. New Hampshire lacks a science-based, statewide climate policy and needs a time‑lined plan to protect natural resources. We back policies to safeguard water, land, and air for future generations and promote clean energy through expanded net metering and targeted subsidies to spur community, corporate, and consumer investment.
